| 24.5.2026 19h30 Einlass Luís Vicente, Gonçalo Almeida, Pedro Melo Alves, Kenji Herbert Luís Vicente - trumpet Gonçalo Almeida - double bass Pedro Melo Alves - drums Kenji Herbert - guitar Stimulated by the desire to explore written music in greater depth and take some weight off improvisation, trumpeter Luís Vicente called on Gonçalo Almeida and Pedro Melo Alves to join him, bringing together three of the most exciting musicians in contemporary Portuguese jazz. After recent experiments with Hamid Drake, John Dikeman and William Parker, Vicente returns to his elastic writing on the album Come Down Here, designed for a trio comfortable with the abstract and free paths that shape his conception of music. In a constant game of approaching and retreating from rhythm, structure and melody, this encounter explores extremes and repeatedly escapes convention, both in writing and improvisation. They will be joined by Kenji Herbert for an improvised set. Kenji Herbert is a Japanese-Austrian guitarist/composer based in Vienna. In the decade that he previously resided in Brooklyn, New York, he has established himself in its creative music scene as a leader and collaborator to a wide range of projects ranging from jazz and improvised music to indie-rock and electronic music. His trio album “A Million Forests of the Fall” featuring Vinicius Cajado (bass) and Lukas König (drums) was awarded the Austrian jazz prize in the category Best Album 2025. |
